What is NaNoCoMo?

NaNoCoMo (National Novel Continuing Month) is a monthly event, reset on the 1st of every month. The goal is much the same as that of NaNoWriMo, though far less intense at a minimum of 30k words for the monthly target.
Every new month there is a fresh goal of yet another 30k words. Each month is an event within itself and it is not necessary to continue the previous month's novel. In fact, it is possible to start a new new novel or even resume one from a long forgotton manuscript you found dusty under your bed or ontop of a wardrobe. Or perhaps one that you discovered on an equally dusty floppy disk.

There is only one goal in NaNoCoMo: Write 30,000 words in one month!

Why do NaNoCoMo?

NaNoCoMo is for those of us that are determined, mildly insane, word-count-obsessed or all of the above!
NaNoCoMo is a place for all writers (whether you consider yourself one or not) to come together and race towards a common goal: to write as much as they can!
You don't have to have to have prior NaNoWriMo experience. What better way to 'continue' something than to start putting it down on paper or tapping it into a keyboard? It started in your mind, in your imagination, let it continue in a more tangible medium.
So why only 30k words? The answer is fairly straight forward, NaNoWriMo is possibly the most intense writing month out there. At a lofty goal of 50k words, it can take a lot out of you. However, 30k words is a far more managable goal to carry out within a single month. It also leaves you with a rough goal of a nice round 1000 words a day.
Another thing you can do in NaNoCoMo that you can't do in NaNoWriMo is start a story before the start of a month. You can't, of course, count the previously written words towards you 30k target, but you can use this story you have.

The History of NaNoCoMo

The history of NaNoCoMo is still in the making!

December 2007 is the 1st ever month of NaNoCoMo! the website, as you can no doubt see, is still in the very early stages of creation.

I was inspired to create NaNoCoMo after participating in NaNoWriMo for the very first time. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative rollercoaster ride that NaNoWriMo provided, the unrelenting rush towards the grand goal of 50k words. I wasn't sure if I would be able to make the mark, but I did in the end and made a lot of new friends along the way.
Having achieved the 50k word target of NaNoWriMo, I was in the prediciment (one I disocered I was far from alone in) of having 50k words, but nowhere near a finished novel. A few of us investigated NaNoFiMo as a possible outlet for our unfinsihed novels. However, some of us felt we would still be unable to complete our work within anotehr single month. It was then that NaNoCoMo was born within me.

The Future of NaNoCoMo

So, the site is up (sort of), the goal is set (pretty much) and we're ready to go (I think)! Where do we go from here?

I expect it will be a while until I figure out the coding for a word valildator like NaNoWriMo has. However, with the forum now complete, I intend to have the ability to create user accounts installed nextand a field to put in an ongoing word count; perhaps some spiffy graphs like NaNoWriMo has too.

If anyone has the ability or will to help, I'd be happy to hear from you. I know a little about web-building, but nothing about the finities of a more complex website such as NaNoWriMo has. I will, for the most part, be learning as we go along. So, please bare with me as this website develops.
